Not long after the BSA Cape Yearling Sale, our eyes are back on South Africa, this time on the Race Coast Sales organsiation.

Sire power foreign and domestic is on offer at this year’s Race Coast Sales Premier Yearling Sale, whose catalogue includes almost 300 lots sent through drafts large and small.
The likes of Gimmethegreenlight, Querari and Vercingetorix fly the flag for South Africa, while offspring by British-standing Kingman and Cracksman provide a suitable international flavour as, now two years after the EU’s direct export ban was lifted, South Africa’s racing industry continues to reopen to the world.
Kingman is represented through Lot 6, the Drakenstein-consigned colt Roundaboutmidnight, who’s out of the unraced Frankel mare Kind of Beautiful. Cracksman, meanwhile, is represented through Lot 135, a fellow Drakenstein-consigned colt, this time Solitary Eagle, out of the three-time winner Verreaux Eagle.
Of those mentioned South African stars, Gimmethegreenlight has sired a notable offering in Lot 64, a colt out of the dual Grade 1 winner Return Flight, Querari is the father of yearlings that include Lot 30, a colt out of the winning Marcheline, whose six foals to race have all won, and Vercingetorix is responsible for yearlings that include Lot 2, a filly out of a three-time winning half-sister to the South American top-level winner Keane.
Klawervlei sends one of the largest drafts, its consignment including a Vercingetorix colt out of the dual Grade 1 winner Thunder Dance (Lot 123), and Maine Chance Farms also deliver a vast array of stock, including another Vercingetorix-sired yearling in Lot 185, a full-sister to the Kenilworth Cape Fillies Guineas heroine Chansonette.
Alongside Vercingetorix, What A Winter and Rafeef are also well-represented. The former is responsible for the likes of Lot 100, a half-brother to the Grade 1-placed Happy Verse, and the latter’s representatives include Lot 94, a filly out of the Scottsville South African Fillies Sprint heroine Singforafa.
Jet Dark, who has sired yearlings that include Lot 31 (a half-brother to a Listed winner) and Kommetdieding, whose offerings include Lot 11 (from the family of numerous Graded winners) are among young sires with representatives at one of South Africa’s most important annual sales.
Other lots of interest include:
Lot 18, Little Peregrine, a half-sister to the Grade 2 winner and South African Derby runner-up Pure Predator.
Lot 148, a What A Winter filly whose dam is a half-sister to the dam of the aforementioned sire Rafeef.
Lot 196, a colt out of the Greyville Golden Slipper winner Cockney Pride.
Trade begins at 4pm on Friday.
