Action is back at the Gold Coast with a two-day sale that presents a catalogue of almost 500 yearlings.

Already almost two months have passed since the bloodstock world, its members either on off duty, swarmed to Australia for the Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
Adroitly combining sales with racing and assorted other glamorous goings-on, January’s event rightly occupies the mantle of a Magic Millions showpiece.
The Gold Coast March Yearling Sale, however, provides plenty in the way of affordable gems, and potential purchasers likely won’t have to fend off the same level of elite domestic and foreign competition.
Kenmore Lodge bring one of the two-day sale’s largest drafts, with offerings that include Lot 265, a Better Than Ready half-sister to four winners, and Lot 331, a State Of Rest daughter who’s a half-sister to the Group 3 winner and Group 2 Queensland Guineas runner-up Perfect Thought.
Oaklands Stud, meanwhile, a fellow Queensland-based consignor, deliver such yearlings (in another of the sale’s larger drafts) as Lot 300, a Power filly out of the dual winner Monaafasah, and Lot 319, a fellow Power filly, but in this case out of the winning O’Reilly daughter Olena.
Though plenty of local representation is on offer, this year’s edition will also include a selection of yearlings not in Queensland Thoroughbred Incentive Scheme (QTIS), something that Magic Millions hopes will help add “depth, variety and appeal” for local, interstate and international buyers alike.
Better Than Ready and Spirit Of Boom, both of whom stand in Queensland, are the sires behind a large proportion of lots on sale, with Better Than Ready’s offspring including, in addition to lots already mentioned, Lot 347, a filly out of the winning Discreet Cat mare Proprioception, and Lot 388, a filly out of an unraced half-sister to the Listed winner and multiple Group 3-placed Soothing.
For his part, Spirit Of Boom’s offspring on offer feature Lot 417, a colt out of the multiple Listed winner and Group 2-placed Sold For Song, and Lot 247, a colt out of the winning Statue Of Liberty mare Little River, who’s a half-sister to the Listed heroine Jami Lady.
Other lots of interest include:
Lot 44, a Maurice colt out of the Group 3 winner Almighty Girl, a half-sister to the South African Grade 2 winner Zodiac Ruler.
Lot 65, a fellow Maurice colt, this time a full-brother to the winner and Group 3-placed Katsumi Orichi. Their second dam won at Group 1 level in South America.
Lot 406, a colt by Top Ranked out of a close relation to the dual Listed winner and multiple Group 3-placed Malice.
Trade begins at 10am on Thursday.
