Britain and Hong Kong in the Weekly Roundup

The week began with talk of Ka Ying Rising and continued with events at Ascot and Kempton.

Fresh from Ka Ying Rising’s latest triumph (his 18th in succession), Zac Purton spoke to Nick Luck on Monday, outlining the superstar’s likely path to further victories.

With Josh Stacey in the anchor’s chair, Lucy Wadham, Dan Skelton and Neil King also dialled in with jumping updates.

Luck, though, remained on hand not only to speak to Zac Purton, but also to Simone Meloni, who last year was named Employee of the Year at the Godolphin Thoroughbred Industry Employee Awards.

This year’s edition of the awards, which celebrate the British racing and breeding workforce, unfurled at Ascot on Monday, with Karl Burke’s travelling head lad Kieran Kourdache taking Employee of the Year honours. He was on the podcast the following day, when Luck was at Kempton for pre-Cheltenham workouts.

Nick’s presence at Kempton meant Tuesday’s episode also featured the thoughts of Paul Nicholls and Nicky Henderson.

We also heard from Mason Paetel, who shared his hopes of gaining this year’s champion apprentice title, and from Tom Magnier, who described a deal that sees former Waikato Stud resident Super Seth move across the water to Coolmore Australia.

You can read more about it here.

With the news that Constitution Hill won’t line up for this year’s Champion Hurdle, Luck (who anchored the show from Wincanton), asked his owner, Michael Buckley, how the decision was reached and discussed the Henderson superstar with David ‘Newsboy’ Yates.

There was JA McGrath’s Hong Kong update, while Luck also talked prize money with the Levy Board’s Alan Delmonte and spoke to Molly Armytage (daughter of the 1990 Grand National-winning jockey and journalist Marcus) after her first ride (and win!) under Rules.

Thursday’s episode was delivered from the Betting and Gaming Council (BGC) AGM in London and included an in-depth discussion with the BGC’s CEO Grainne Hurst, as well as Dealmeout’s Jordan Lea and Baroness Twycross, the UK’s Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Museums, Heritage and Gambling.
