Sale Preview: Inglis Classic Yearling Sale

Warwick Farm is the next stop for Australasian horsemen and women (as well as those from further afield). The Inglis Classic Yearling Sale is just around the corner.

After a couple of online offerings, Inglis holds its first physical sale of 2026 this Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. The Southern Hemisphere yearling sale season has, though, been in full swing for a while.

Riverside’s Classic Yearling Sale comes after Books 1 and 2 of the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale yielded an A$212,800,000 aggregate, and after the NZB Karaka Sale, which closed last week, posted a NZ$95,685,000 total for trade across its Book 1, Book 2 and Summer Sale.

Those figures in mind, Inglis has some pressure applied as the third in line. A 798-strong catalogue, however, with lots by almost 115 individual sires, should help it match or even exceed expectations.

Inglis self-describes it as the ‘best value yearling sale in the Southern Hemisphere’ and prices of recent top-level graduates certainly seem to back that statement up. Pride Of Jenni, for example, went for just A$100,000 in 2019.

That superstar, crowned Australian Champion Racehorse of the Year a few years back, is by Pride Of Dubai, responsible for about five lots going through the ring this year, including Lot 573, a colt out of the winning O'Reilly mare Well Credentialled, a half-sister to the dual Group 3 winner Gotta Have Heart.

Widden send a notably large draft, while Torryburn's can be described as ‘quality over quantity’, given it includes the likes of Lot 79, a Pierro half-sister to the dual Group 2 winner and multiple Group 1 fourth Straight Arron, Lot 279, a Zoustar colt out of the five-time winner and two-time Group 2 second Our Intrigue and Lot 341, whose second dam won at Group 3 level.

Sires with sizeable representation include Home Affairs, responsible for the likes of Lot 322, out of a dam whose four foals to race have all won, as well as Farnan, sire of Lot 554, whose dam Valley Sweetheart was placed at Listed level, among others.

Lot 462, a Harry Angel full-brother to the Group 2 victrix and multiple Group 1-placed Stretan Angel, and Lot 158, a Snitzel colt out of the Group 3 winner Madotti, look set to turn heads, as does Lot 56, a half-brother to the Galaxy hero Private Harry.

Other lots of interest include:

Lot 50, a half-sister to the multiple Group 3 winner and Group 2-placed Chica Fuerte, dam of the recent Listed-placed Invicto

Lot 190, whose pedigree received an update in December when his full-sister Where's The Circus won a Restricted Listed on debut.

Lot 753, a Dundeel colt out of a full-sister to the dual Group 2 winner Deploy.

Trade begins at 10am on Sunday and all lots offered are eligible for the Inglis Race Series.
