Thoroughbred Racing Commentary buys Gallop Magazine

Gallop magazine, the popular glossy horse racing quarterly with an established global readership, has been bought by Thoroughbred Racing Commentary (TRC).

Gallop, which boasts an established list of subscribers and a worldwide circulation of more than 10,000 copies, was established in Sweden in 2007 by Mats and Catrina Genberg, both passionate Thoroughbred industry supporters and horse owners, who already had a successful marketing and branding business in Genberg & Co AB.

Initially available only in Swedish, the magazine quickly became popular and the international edition was launched in 2012. Its number of subscribers around the world has continued to grow, featuring a particularly strong network in key areas, including the executive and professional markets, as well as one of racing’s biggest fan bases on social media.

TRC editor Chris Smith said, “TRC and Gallop complement each other perfectly. They both take a global approach to the sport, focusing not only on the best horse racing but also on stories and developments that can promote best practice and progressive dialogue everywhere.

“TRC receives nearly a million pageviews annually from more than 300,000 unique users. We have a growing and enthusiastic band of readers, advertisers and sponsors, and we believe the addition of a quality print magazine like Gallop can only enhance the offering of both publications.”

Mats Genberg added, “We have thoroughly enjoyed our time in creating and establishing Gallop as an important industry publication, and we feel the opportunity to pass the stewardship over to our friends and colleagues at TRC too good an opportunity to miss. We will continue to work closely with TRC and provide support whenever possible.”

Smith said these were “very exciting times” for TRC, which is also the home of TRC Global Rankings, the only world standings for jockeys, owners, trainers and sires. The rankings are based on all Group and Graded results around the world over a rolling three-year window.

The next issue of Gallop, the first under TRC ownership, is due out in the next two weeks, focussing on British Champions Day, the Breeders’ Cup, the Melbourne Cup, and Winx’s historic fourth Cox Plate.
