USA: Churchill Downs becomes the centrepiece of the Thoroughbred racing world on the first Saturday in May – and now it has a starring role in a viral video featuring the new single by hip-hop sensation Jack Harlow.
Louisville-born Harlow, 24, is one of the hottest talents on the rap scene, a Grammy nominee who has already scored two number ones and was named top new artist at the 2021 Billboard awards.
As guest of the racetrack he delivered the ‘Riders up!’ announcement before last month’s Kentucky Derby – but also turned the visit into a working trip by filming the music video for his new single entitled ‘Churchill Downs’ during the meeting.
Joined by collaborator Drake, the white-suited Harlow performs from a glass-fronted hospitality box on the infield as the horses race by, and from the grandstand, name checking the racecourse in the lyric: “Kentucky Derby races, my presence in the spot is so abrasive/Boxed at the Churchill Downs, that's motivation.”
The video of the song, released on June 1, also includes the singer’s mother Maggie, and has already been viewed more than 5.8 million times.
The single is taken from his hit album Come Home The Kids Miss You, which spawned No.1 single ‘First Class’. Harlow, meanwhile, is soon to make his acting debut in the remake of the 1992 movie ‘White Men Can’t Jump’.
